Stolen Painting
Someone stole one of my paintings over the weekend. A few weeks ago everyone in my beginning painting class made red paintings. Mine was of my beautiful red amaryllis. They were all up for display in hall outside of the painting room, and now mine is gone gone gone. It pretty much stinks. But at least my painting is desirable right? It doubly stinks because someone had offered to buy it from me. It triply stinks because now I don't want to display my work out there. And on top of all that it just really stinks.

Big-Titted-Porno Hammer
I went to my sculpture class this morning, and got down to work. First I should say that I made a pretty funky hammer last night after I posted. It's made of graham crackers and Hershey's chocolate squares and a marshmallow, all glued together using that horrible pre-made icing that tastes so good. And I made s'mores over our gas stove for myself and my hubby's self. But I digress...
Since the very introduction of this project, I've wanted to do a nude hammer. (Those of you who know me probably know what I mean, the rest of you have to wait for me to get a camera. But to explain briefly, almost everything I make has, is or is derived from vaginas and breasts.) I actually initially wanted to 10 nude hammers, but there just wasn't enough time, so I abandoned the idea. Since the whole idea is to use different and unusual stuff to build our hammers, I've been trying really hard not to use clay, wax or plaster. Particularly clay. In class today I broke down and grabbed a bag of clay and built up a porno-bitch, sex-toy, fantasty-land, big-titted hammer. It was very satisfying. I feel like myself again. And I love clay. And breasts.
On the down side, I spent the entire morning working on one hammer, and I still have a zillion left to go, with two days to go them.

Hammer Project
I'm working on the second project of the semester for my sculpture class. The guidelines are to create 10 claw-toothed-hammers, using different materials. They can be made of pretty much anything, the stipulations being: no biohazards, and nothing stinky. So I can't make a hammer out of Port Salut. Or Limberger. Too bad. Our instructor specifically said not to make hammers out of blood either. ...makes me wonder...
I have three hammers almost complete. One is made out of broken redwood twigs. It looks like I would imagine the Trojan Horse, just without wheels and enemy soldiers (although being hidden, you wouldn't see them either), and a lot littler. The other is more of an assemblage. The handle is a redwood stick, which rests in the center of a window screen tube, around which grout has been grouted, as though growing up from the ground. (That doesn't have to make sense. I'll post pictures soon and you'll understand.) The similarly made head of the hammer will be perched precariously on top. The 3rd hammer is carved styrofoam, which will be an armature for Bondo.
Which leaves 7. The problem is that they are due on Tuesday, 5 days away. Which wouldn't be a problem at all, except that I just realized that I'm going to be out of town and away from the sculpture lab for 3 of those days. That gives me 2 days, not enough time. (this is how it usually goes with me, and now I'm stressing out as usual and procrastinating even more before I go into production mode)
The ideas I an considering for the remaining include: graham crackers with icing, beeswax, hair, window screen, cotton, and ????

Introduction
Hello, I assume most people who come here to view this, at least in the beginning, already know me. So I'm not going to introduce myself too thoroughly. The main thing is that I am a student of art, and as the thingy at the top of my blog says, I hope to have an exchange of ideas with other artists, and also with people who don't consider themselves artists. I intend to share assignments, ideas, photographs, and all things art-related. Eventually I'll get a digital camera and really be able to share my art with everyone. In the meantime, we'll make due.
I am currently taking two art classes, one beginning painting and one beginning sculpture. The painting class is going extremely well, I love it, it is completely inspiring to me. Color is amazing and beautiful and really really hard for me! But I love it. Its a bit of a leap for me because I've never really worked in the 2-dimensional before. Its all new and I love it !!!

The sculpture class fluctuates between rewarding and extremely frustrating. I've done a lot of sculpture before this, I am very comfortable with working 3 dimensionally, and this class is designed for students who haven't much experience with that. Any class is only what you make it though, and when I stop feeling that all the assignments are ridiculous wastes of time, I can really get into it and make it worth my time. And maybe make some decent art.
